CSK doesn’t want to exchange a player from the current Sanju Samson list?

Trade IPL: CSK desperately needed to find a solid replacement for MS Dhoni, which was faithful to the team.

The IPL 2026 trade window started long back, but apart from reports, no real action seems to have taken place in this regard. For a few months now, there have been various reports suggesting CSK’s interest in bagging Sanju Samson. As per a report in Cricbuzz, all is not well between his current team — Rajasthan Royals, and the player.

No Sanju Samson for CSK?

But even then, the deal seems to have hit a roadblock. The CSK management, according to the same publication, offered a deal, which wasn’t acceptable to the RR franchise. So, what is the real issue? There were murmurs that Chennai might give up one or two players to get Sanju Samson in their team, but as is their team policy, the management isn’t willing to leave their players.

These players, as rumors suggested — could have been Shivam Dube or Ravichandran Ashwin. But then, if there were any doubts over their participation for the Men in Yellow, those are dispelled now. So, one can just assume, that CSK won’t release/ trade any of their players as of now.

Chennai Unwilling to Let go Players

But speculations continue to remain strong. Now, their best option to bag Sanju, could be through the IPL 2026 auction. There too, his price could go well over 20 Cr. For IPL 2025, he was retained for 18 Cr by the RR. Meanwhile, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and MS Dhoni are in Chennai currently, to discuss the future course of action.

It is all speculative for now, but all this just goes on to suggest that Chennai might want to give the current crop of players a longer rope, despite them failing big time in the 2025 season. After all it was only last year, that the team got a new look at the auction.
