Paramount plans for CBS News, Bari Weiss would create a strange coupling

What is at the center of a modern journalism organization in 2025: Take Hot or Hot News?
Paramount seems ready to choose one rather than the others with regard to CBS News. The company was in talks with Bari Weiss, founder of online success The Free Press, according to three people knowing the question, who could make sure that the great conglomerate of the Buy Weiss media and gives it a higher level in the former home of Walter Cronkite and Edward R Murrow.
The problem? Well, there are many. Inside CBS News, senior producers and basic employees are confused. David Ellison, who took control of Paramount just a few weeks ago via his production company, Skydance, made the division of the news one of his first judgments on the property of Paramount which was transferred from the previous goalkeeper Shari Redstone. According to two people familiar with the question, Ellison completed the staff and the work they do, expressing admiration for both information leadership and the journalistic process.

Paramount could face other unique problems with a Weiss rental. It is a public personality. Most of the editorial rooms live on camera lives and do not host animated podcasts or do not contribute to thorny opinion columns. The Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times have seen layoffs and traffic falls under the aegis of Jeff Bezos and Patrick Soon Shiong, and have suffered reputation successes while the owners were spoiled with the journalistic independence of their properties.
Meanwhile, CBS News in its current state benefits from some of the most widespread supports among people who trust traditional press organizations – one of the potential public public for CBS information programming. Among American adults who have at least confidence in the information they receive from national press organizations, according to Pew Research Center, 51% Trust CBS News. Only ABC News and NBC News have no more confidence in this group, and CBS News is equally with CNN and PBS.
Obviously, there is room for improvement. What CBS News could probably use is a wider distribution. It was not a secret for anyone that CBS sold eight affiliates in 1994 when he lost the rights of the NFL to Fox the previous year. This hung the network’s ability to compete more directly with NBC and ABC on several fronts. That said, CBS has many first -class programs in prime time and in its Sunday programming – as well as its “late show” organized by Stephen Colbert. Paramount cancels this program in May, and the results of this decision remain to be seen, although CBS leaders have declared that the economy of this program could no longer be maintained.
If the Ellisons want to spend a lot of money to improve Paramount foot, they could try to get new stations. This could be a safer way to add the linear distribution of CBS News. Sinclair Inc., one of the country’s largest owners in the country, said in August that she would examine her dissemination assets that could lead to a possible sale, among other possible transactions. Bringing Weiss on board as a chief of the editorial could also warm things – but the success of this idea is far from guaranteed. If Paramount is looking for a brandard to bow to the current journalism convention and play conservatives against the liberals, and vice versa, they will certainly cultivate more attention, but they will probably suffer from constant leaks and personnel defections.
