Mike Smith walks away from ‘Trailer Park Boys’ amid sexual assault lawsuit

After wrapping up season 13 of the Canadian mockumentary in August, Mike Smith is retiring from Trailer Park Boys in the middle of a sexual assault trial against him.

The group behind the Netflix comedy noted that they take “these matters seriously” and that Smith had “stepped away” from his role as CEO of Trailer Park Boys Inc. after being indicted early last month for an alleged 2017 incident.

“We are aware of the allegations regarding Mike Smith dating back to 2017 and take these matters seriously,” Trailer Park Boys Inc. said in a statement to multiple media outlets. “We recognize how difficult an allegation of this nature is for everyone involved. »

They added: “Out of respect for the legal process, we will not make further comment on the matter. At this time, Mike has left his position with Trailer Park Boys Incorporated and Gary Howsam has assumed the responsibilities of Managing Director.”

Filed in Nova Scotia provincial court, Smith was charged on October 2 for an alleged assault that allegedly took place on December 30, 2017 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, according to CBC News.

Created by Mike Clattenburg, Smith starred in Trailer Park Boys as Bubbles since the series premiered in 2001, alongside Rob Wells’ Ricky and John Paul Tremblay as Julian. After initially ending seven seasons in 2007, Netflix revived the series in 2014.

In August, Deadline exclusively reported that season 13 ended in Nova Scotia, after a gap of nearly eight years since the season 12 premiere.
