Outlander’s Sam Heughan in ‘extremely funny’ comedy role now on Netflix

Netflix added an underrated Hollywood comedy starring Sam Heughan in a very different role from Outlander

Netflix recently premiered a beloved comedy film that will definitely show Outlander enthusiasts their beloved protagonist, Sam Heughan, in a completely new perspective.

The Scottish charmer is best known for his portrayal of Highland warrior Jamie Fraser alongside Caitriona Balfe, who plays his time-hopping wife Claire in the acclaimed Starz production.

After more than a decade on television, the popular series will conclude next year with its eighth and final season, streaming on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK.

Ahead of his farewell performance as rugged protagonist Jamie, admirers enjoyed Heughan’s contrasting characters beyond the period fantasy series, including his recent theatrical venture in Macbeth and the sensual contemporary thriller The Couple Next Door.

Now, Netflix has introduced its own contribution; the tumultuous 2018 pic, The Spy Who Dumped Me, reports the Scottish Daily Express.

Starring Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon, the action-packed comedy tells the story of two closest friends who find themselves relentlessly hunted by killers when one of their former partners is revealed as a rogue CIA agent.

Heughan plays Sebastian, among those pursuing Agent Drew (Justin Theroux) with dubious allegiances.

Aficionados who have already been captivated by Heughan’s portrayal of Jamie, author Diana Gabaldon’s beloved Scottish idol, are in for an exhilarating ride if they haven’t witnessed what may be his role farthest from his breakthrough performance to date.

A reviewer from Letterboxd described The Spy Who Dumped Me as “extremely funny”. “I can’t believe how many times I burst out laughing,” they continued.

“I’m 100% sure my friends would act like this if we were sent on a spy mission. We’re fighting for our lives while making pranks.”

Another viewer said: “Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon as a comedy duo are the greatest thing that has ever happened or will happen in my life.”

A third fan boldly declared: “I honestly think this is the most underrated action comedy of all time.”

Another rave review read: “Tell me that line isn’t good writing here. I thought this movie would be funny but not THAT FUNNY! Kunis and McKinnon almost made me cry.

“They both work so well together, like peanut butter on toast. The comedy was great and the action was quite violent, which surprised me a little because I wasn’t expecting that.

“And of course, I loved every moment of it like I do with any other top-notch action movie. If there’s a sequel, I’ll be there.”

Heughan’s role also received praise on IMDb, where one viewer commented: “Sam was the best! I loved his character and I loved him!” Another agreed, saying: “This movie made me laugh out loud! Cute, action-packed comedy! Plus the gorgeous Sam Heughan rocked it!”
