Ooni Halo Pro Spiral Stand Mixer Review

Ooni is a pillar of pizza ovens. But his last offer leaves the outdoors and enters the kitchen: meet the Ooni Halo Pro Spiral stand mixer. It is announced as a powerful machine that will help your quest to make the best Neapolitan pizza dough – wacky, airy and not subject to dreaded tears. It differs from other media of supports in that it has a rotary bowl rather than attachments, and it has a digital interface and a dial control. Could the simplicity and an elegant factor in shape make it a winner? I tested the Ooni stand mixer for weeks to discover it, using it to make pizza dough, rollers, whipped cream and cookies.

Tests

  • Dinner test: I made dinner rollers using the dough hook attachment. This test examined how much the Ooni stand mixer could mix and knead a sticky, soft and buttered paste.
  • Pizza paste test: Ooni is known for his pizza ovens, so of course, I had to do Neapolitan pizza dough. I used the circle bar, which is fixed in the center of the mixer and the paste hook to knead it.
  • Sugar cookie test: The Ooni Stand mixer comes with a paddle accessory, which I used for butter and sugar cream for sugar cookies.
  • Whipped cream test: The Ooni is also delivered with a whip attachment. I tested it by beating a cup of heavy whipping cream and synchronizing how long it took to form rigid peaks.

What we have learned

Ooni vs Kitchenaid Stand Mixers: What is the difference?

The Kitchenaid stand mixers have a fixed bowl while the accessories run and the ooni is the opposite.

To begin with, the Ooni is a spiral mixer, which means that he has a bowl that turns, like the ankarsrum stand mixer. The KitchenAid stand mixers are planetary mixers, which means that they use an arm that turns accessories. The rotation bowl of a spiral mixer can reach faster speeds and therefore better kneading and gluten paste formation. It also facilitates it with a spatula and scrape the sides without hitting the attachment.

Another difference between the two is the shape of their bowls: the large bowl of seven -quarters of Ooni has a flat bottom, which helps prevent dry ingredient pockets during the kneading dough. This is a common problem with the more sloping bowl kitchenaid, where dry ingredients tend to flow in the center and stay unixed. Finally, the Ooni uses a touch screen and a dial for its commands, while Kitchenaids has a lever to switch between speeds.

The Ooni Stand mixer was robust, powerful and easy to use

The Ooni Halo Pro Spiral Standing mixer has a simple dial and touch screen interface.

The ooni is super easy to install: press the hinges on both sides of the head to lift it, twist the bowl and screw the fixing, press the power button on the back and the machine comes to life. I liked the digital touch screen interface, which has a timer and speed settings, both connected to the single dial. To adjust the speed or define a timer, you just have to press the digital display and turn the dial.

The Ooni is also incredibly robust: it weighs 33 pounds, which makes it one of the heaviest stand mixers I have tested. It also has a powerful engine on 650 watts, which is a huge 150 watts more than our favorite stand kitchenaid mixer.

He excelled in breading dough

With a powerful engine and a rotating bowl, the Ooni excelled in the mixture and the bread dough.

When it was a question of kneading the bread dough, it was the time of the ooni stand mixer to shine. The rotary bowl has even ensured the integration of the ingredients and an appropriate kneader, and the removable circle bar, which slips next to the hook, helped knead and stretch. The Neapolitan pizza dough that I made appeared strong but flexible, while the dinner rolled made little butter and tender buns. The timer function was also super useful, especially for longer kneading times.

It was not so great in other tasks

He had trouble beat the sugar and butter together for the cookies, although the final treats were delicious.

While the Ooni excelled with kneading, he fought for cream with butter and sugar and whisk of the cream. It took almost five minutes at its highest speed to whisk a cup of thick cream in steep peaks. It is quite long given the ankarsrum, a similar mixer style, took 35 seconds in our tests. The guardian of splashes was essential during this process, because the cream threw everywhere. However, he did not know completely with the bowl, so some drops have still escaped.

He also had a trouble with butter and sugar cream for cookies. I used the fixing of the paddle and I adjusted the Ooni to 75% power, depending on the recipe instructions. However, the pagaie lined with silicone has just pushed the ingredients. I had to increase the speed and use a spatula to scrape the sides to help incorporate the ingredients. However, cookies have always prepared tender and well mixed, so there is that.

The verdict

If your backyard seems to transplant from a pizza restaurant or turn off the hydration of the dough, then the Ooni Halo Pro Spiral mixer will probably make you happy. Its rotary bowl ensures the total incorporation of the ingredients for the bread dough (no flour pockets in the center of the bowl), and the timer function is useful for long petrisses. He made an excellent bread dough, including a sticky and buttered dinner roller dough and a well -followed Neapolitan pizza dough. However, he fought in other tasks, such as cream butter and sugar for cookie dough and whisk of thick cream, which makes it less versatile than the other stand mixers I used.

It was super easy to configure, however: to adjust the speed or change the timer, just turn the dial. His heavy goods vehicle prevented her from wavering on my counter, which is always a good thing with a stand mixer. It is not super larger either and adapts easily under my cabinets when the arm is down.

The pros

The Ooni Stand mixer excels in making bread dough, which makes sense, since the brand is known for its pizza ovens. The dough hook incorporated butter in a transparent manner in the roller dough with soft dinner, which causes light and tender buns. When combined with the crossbar, which slips near the paste hook, it also kneaded with perfectly elastic Neapolitan pizza dough which cooked the light and airy with the chews required the known style.

Beyond its performance, the Ooni stand mixer was also easy to use: just burst the top of the mixer, add the fixing, fix the bowl and switch the power switch. The user interface is a simple unique dial with a touch screen to choose between time and speed. It was easy to switch between the two, and the timer function was useful for long capes. The bowl turned gently, and it was easy to reach with a spatula to scrape the sides by mixing, which you cannot do with a planetary stand mixer like a kitchenaid.

The disadvantages

The palette accessory lined with silicone was slow with butter and sugar cream, although the cookies cook well. I would have preferred an unlisted unlissed paddle, which, I think, would have seized and beat the better and faster mixture. The machine was also downright slow of the whipped cream.

The Ooni Stand mixer is quite expensive, even more than Ankarsrum, one of its main competitors. It is also heavier than most of our favorite stand mixers and requires more efforts and strength to move. I would have liked if the bowl had a handful for an easy paste transfer.
