“Baywatch” is back. Fox officially gave a direct order to the series for a restart of the legendary series of rescuers is broadcast during the 2026-2027 distribution season.
Fox Entertainment and Fremantle co -produce the restart, which received an order of 12 episodes. Matt Nix will serve as a showrunner and executive producer, with Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Dante Di Loreto and Doug Schwartz also producers. Berk, Bonnan and Schwartz were the creators of the original series.

Now, with our partners in Fremantle, this television mastodon is ready for a modern return, “said Michael Thorn, president of Fox Television Network. “Together, Fox and Fremantle, with Matt Nix and the original co-creator Greg Bonann, will bring California’s dream to a brand new generation of fans with new stories, rising stars and all the spectacle that makes the franchise ‘Baywatch’ a world feeling.”
Fremantle started playing with the idea of restarting the series and its emblematic red swimwear from 2018, with Fox on board in 2024 with a script and a penalty commitment. No actor is attached to the restart at the time of this publication.
“Baywatch” initially made its debut in 1989 on NBC. He was broadcast during a season on this network before spending the syndication for the rest of his 11 -season race, during which he broadcast nearly 250 episodes. It has been renamed “Baywatch: Hawaii” for its last two seasons while production has moved to the island state of California. A reunion TV movie was broadcast on Fox in 2003.

At its peak, “Baywatch” was the most watched spectacle in the world, broadcast in more than 200 countries. The casting of the whole included David Hasselhoff as chief rescuer Mitch Buchannon and helped launch the actor careers of stars like Pamela Anderson, Jason Momoa, Yasmine Bleeth and Carmen Electra. The show also generated the short-term spin-off, “Baywatch Nights”, and was restarted as a feature film with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Zac Efron in 2017.
With the order of the series, “Baywatch” will be the second rescue series for Fox rescuers in recent years. The broadcaster previously distributed “Rescue: Hi-surf”, which was directed by John Wells. This program was canceled after a single season in May 2025.
