“ Omaha ”, ‘nino’ fill the best honors in the world cinema in Jakarta

The Jakarta World Cinema Festival finished its fourth edition with a closing ceremony at the Grand Indonesia CGV, revealing the winners of its competitions of feature films and short films.

Joachim Trier’s “sentimental value” won the JWC public prize, voted directly by festival -goers. In the first feature film competition, the jury awarded the best director to Pauline Loquès for “Nino”, while “Omaha” by Cole Webley won the best film.

The Klikfilm short film competition celebrated emerging Indonesian talents with four prizes. Sinung Winahyoko’s “Babon” claimed first place and a feature film fund, while “Darma” by Joni Astin Ariadi took the first finalist (also receiving a feature film) and “Pembayun” by Ardian Pararasto was also in the second vice “Wahyu” by Nada Leo Prakasa won the public prize for 50 million ($ 3,000).

The festival presented 185 films from 66 countries this year, attracting 208,111 participants through online projections and cinema experiences in person in Jakarta.

Fadli Zon, Minister of Culture in Indonesia, attended the closing ceremony and said: “Jakarta world cinema is a very important event for the Indonesian film ecosystem, where it becomes a space for discussion and a celebration of cinema. Our film industry is something that we have to feed, and so far, its development has been very positive. “

He added: “Thanks to JWC, we are also very happy to see that several young filmmakers now have the opportunity to make their first feature films funded by Klikfilm. We hope there will be more platforms like this.”

Executive director Frederica described the edition “A turning point for us”, noting the overwhelming response of the public. “We are particularly proud to provide young filmmakers with young filmmakers to go from short films to short films,” she said.

The director of the festival, Shandy Gasella, echoes the feeling: “The public’s response to JWC 2025 was extraordinary. Projections with a closed windows for excitement around the short film competition, this shows that spaces to appreciate both world cinema and local cinema are developing. ”
