Oklahoma City vs Indiana: the small market finals that could save the NBA
It is always strange to hear chatter that no one looks at the NBA final due to the size of the market of the teams involved.
Not that we are running on television and says: “Oh, it’s Oklahoma City Thunder. Less people live in Oklahoma than New York. I don’t think I can watch this.”
No one says that. And if you hear someone say something like that, immediately escort them out of your house or your sports bar.
The Milwaukee Bucks played in the NBA final in 2021 – and won the crown – and the League did not collapse due to the size of the city’s small brand.
My God, imagine all the complaints when the Royals of Rochester won everything in 1951.
People who turn on television to watch basketball will be listening. Period.
Looking at the twinning of this season, the Pacers Thunder and Indiana proved to be the best teams of the League – Oklahoma City to the west, while the recent finish of Indiana raised it to the best of the East.
People will be delighted to see more fresh blood in the NBA final. Whatever the team’s victory, there will be seven different champions during seven seasons. Now it’s a good thing.
Sorry, Bill Russell – No one wants to see a team win 11 NBA titles in 13 seasons at that time.
The Pacers were the last in the NBA final in 2000, with Reggie Miller as a player, Larry Bird as a head coach and head coach Rick Carlisle as assistant. They lost against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Oklahoma City has been in the final for the first time since 2012, when he lost against the heat of Miami. It was a team with Kevin during and the superstar version of Russell Westbrook.
The Thunder arrived in Oklahoma City before the start of the 2008-2009 season. Before that, the franchise went through Seattle Supersonics. And the Sonics won the 1979 NBA title.
But it’s not going with thunder. During the move, the property did everything it could to ban the history of the supersonics. Soooo, no means – only Seattle boasts this crown.
Oklahoma City, of course, is able to win her own title. Thunder are also a very fun team to watch on television.
The MVP of the League and the score champion Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Thunder may not have played Christmas Day, but playing in June is a more important affair. Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren and the defensive strength Luguentz Dort are large complements in Gilgeous-Alexander.
The Pacers are an entertaining group, and their style of play makes a vision of stellar television.
Indiana has its own star at Tyrese Haliburton, who marks, passes, steals the ball and leads the example. Pascal Siakam succeeded in three 30 -point outings in the withdrawal of six games from the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference finals.
Indiana is the elite in transition. Heck, the Pacers released Tom Thibodeau from a job (unfairly to this) with a dominant advantage of 106 to 48 in the fast break points.
Knicks have never understood how to slow down the Pacers. Oklahoma City, however, will push the pace just as quickly. This is part of the reason why this match will be fun to watch.
If you like basketball, this series is for you. If all that interests you is that there is no Los Angeles team involved, well, direct your complaints to the owners of the Lakers and Clippers. Neither of the two teams won a series in the first round with guys like LeBron James, Luka Doncic, Kawhi Leonard and James Harden on their respective lists.
In other words – no claims can play in June.
Pacers and Thunder do not care about television ratings, and you either. It is now time for great basketball performance, not major markets.
