OK Blue Jays! Niagara Falls will turn blue this weekend

Niagara Falls will shine blue this weekend in support of the Toronto Blue Jays after the team advanced to the World Series for the first time in 32 years.

On Friday and Saturday, the Niagara Falls Illumination Board will light the falls in the Jays’ iconic blue color starting at 8 p.m., just in time for the “first pitch of Games 1 and 2 of the series, which will be played in Toronto,” according to the board.

The plan was developed in partnership with Niagara Falls Tourism and Niagara Parks, the council said in a news release Thursday.

The council is a century-old Canadian-American collaboration aimed at keeping the falls illuminated year-round.

The Falls were first illuminated in 1860 to honor the visit of the Prince of Wales, becoming a tradition for special occasions. The Niagara Falls Illumination Board was established in 1925.

“Niagara Parks and Niagara Falls Tourism were honored to host the Blue Jays on their winter tour in January 2023, including current players Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Chris Bassitt, which also included a special lighting of the Falls to celebrate the team,” the board said.
