“For a better Brazil, with less harm.” Neon has launched the full official US trailer for the famous Brazilian film titled The secret agent Or The secret agentthe latest novelty from the Brazilian filmmaker Kléber Mendonça Filho. This film premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival to rave reviews, and went on to win Best Actor and Best Director awards at the festival. Now released in US cinemas starting in November this fall, during awards season. In 1977, a technology researcher flees a mysterious past and returns to his hometown of Recife, northern Brazil, in search of peace. He quickly realizes that the city is far from being the safe haven he is looking for. Wagner Moura plays the role of “secret agent” Marcelo. Master filmmaker Kleber Mendonca Filho teams up with acclaimed Brazilian actor Wagner Moura – to deliver an extraordinary, career-defining performance – to create a thrilling, unpredictable and playful epic, steeped in history while feeling contemporary, paying loving homage to many of the films of Filho’s youth while set against a backdrop of political unrest and palpable danger. After screening at TIFF and NYFF, it is considered one of the best foreign films of the year with a brilliant performance from Moura. It’s definitely worth it.
