Man United and Chelsea both seek to add a defensive quality to their teams for next season, and they both aligned the same target in their efforts to achieve this goal during the summer transfer window.
Man United was incredibly fled last season, and although a lot of blame fell on goalkeeper Andre Onana, their defense was also lower than the peer. Meanwhile in Chelsea, there is a desire for a new central defender to compete alongside Levi Colwill, Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo.
Man United Move for Aymeric Laporte, Chelsea near behind
And according to El Chiringuito (via football España), the two clubs turned on Aymeric Laporte. Man United has already made an offer to representatives of the Spanish international, while Chelsea monitored the situation before a possible move during the summer transfer window.
Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Napoli also presented proposals to the Laporte agent, the former Manchester City defender, apparently eager to return to Europe. And if a move in the Premier League is what he wants, he will have the chance to do so.
Laporte was a favorite during his stay in Man City, so he would open his relationship with the supporters of the club if he were to move to Man United. But from the point of view of those of Old Trafford, it would be an excellent signature, as the 31 -year -old showed it during Euro 2024 last summer that he can still compete at the highest level.
Al-Nassr spent 27 million euros to sign Laporte de Man City, and they seek to recover this amount in order to facilitate his departure this summer. These costs should be affordable for Man United or Chelsea, although in the case of the former, they will likely have to make sales first.
