Greg Daniels explains why the spin-off “The Office” focuses on a newspaper

The long-awaited Greg Daniels spin-off Daniels of “The Office” should be presented in September and will focus on the employees of a newspaper. According to the creator, he decided on this group in part because the newspapers of real life are in fact in difficulty.
Addressing Thewrap before the first season of his series “Upload”, published on Prime Video on Monday August 25, Daniels explained that the decision to follow a editorial room in 2025 was not really based on speed, but more on the “mission” of people.
“When you think about it, the original spectacle, they selling stationery in a world where people had iPads. So the kind of appear is not the point,” he explained. “The fact is that, in this show, it is a bit like people who have been a little beaten in a particular situation without interest, inspired by someone again – and I think that journalism as a prosecution, is so important. And the newspapers were dug by these economic forces.”
“The bad guys are often these technological companies, I must say,” he continued. “Google, eBay, like, there are many places that have eliminated the whole source of money from the newspapers. And it seemed that the mission is so great, and it is such a thing that the characters are inspired by someone who enters and says:” Let us really do it and do it as if it was before. “”
Daniels has not hesitated to launch technological companies like bad guys in the past, openly mocking their potential future in “download” for three seasons now. But, more than drawing attention to their threat to journalism, Daniels noted that it was also a good story of oppressed.
“And I guess it’s also like when you are somehow rooted for the Bad News Bears team,” he said. “The more difficult the thing is, they are trying to succeed, the more you want them to win.”
In 2023, Daniels told Thewrap that any type of “office” was “not interesting” to him, simply because “I have the impression that we finished this story beautifully” and that everyone had a closure. What he did Want to fact was something in the same universe, suggesting that perhaps the document crew follows a new business. And indeed, this is what “paper” will be.
The new series of false documents from Daniels and Michael Koman sees the documentary team that captured years of the Duranton Mifflin branch of the branch of Dunder Mifflin while they are heading for a historic Midwest journal where the publisher tries to relaunch it.
There will be reversers – the beloved character of Oscar Nuñez Oscar Oscar even appears in the trailer, although he is not happy to see the documentary team again – but if not, it is a whole new story.
“The Paper” will be presented on September 4 on Peacock.
