NVIDIA invests $ 100 billion in Openai to help develop Chatgpt Maker calculation power

Chipmaker Nvidia will invest $ 100 billion in Openai as part of a partnership announced on Monday which will add at least 10 gigawatts of Nvidia AI data centers to increase the calculation power of the owner of the artificial intelligence chatbot.

According to the letter of intention signed by companies, the first gigawatt of Nvidia systems will be deployed in the second half of 2026. Nvidia and Openai said that they would finish the details of the arrangement in the coming weeks.

“This partnership completes the in -depth work OPENAI and NVIDIA are already doing with a large network of employees, including Microsoft, Oracle, SoftBank and Stargate Partners, focused on the construction of the most advanced IA infrastructure in the world,” said companies in a press release.

The NVIDIA-OPENAI partnership occurs around 10 days after OpenAi said that it had concluded a new provisional agreement which will give Microsoft a participation of $ 100 billion in its for-profit company. OPENAI is technically controlled by its non -profit organization.

Openai was founded as a non -profit organization in 2015 and its non -profit board of directors continued to control the for -profit subsidiary which now develops and sells its AI products.

The Openai corporate structure and the non -profit mission are the subject of a trial brought by Elon Musk, which helped found the non -profit research laboratory and provided initial funding. Musk’s costume seeks to prevent Openai from taking control of the company far from his non -profit and allege organization that he betrayed his promise to develop AI for the benefit of humanity.

Earlier this month, lawyers general of California and Delaware warned Openai that they had “serious concerns” concerning Chatgpt safety, especially for children and adolescents.

The two state officials, who have unique powers to regulate non -profit organizations such as OPENAI, noted “deeply disturbing reports of dangerous interactions between” chatbots and their users, including the suicide of a young Californian after having prolonged interactions with a chatbot Openai. The parents of the 16 -year -old California boy, who died in April, continued Openai and his CEO, Sam Altman last month.

OPENAI says that it has 700 million weekly active users.

In addition, last week, Nvidia announced that she was investing $ 5 billion in his colleague, the manufacturer of Intel fleas, who had trouble following the frantic demand for artificial intelligence.
