Nuggets G Jamal Murray sprains ankle in loss to Mavs

Denver Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray sprained his right ankle during Monday night’s 131-121 loss to the Dallas Mavericks.
Murray attempted to play through his injury in the third quarter, but was off the bench for the entire fourth quarter, during which the Mavericks outscored Denver 29-17 to erase a two-point deficit and hand the Nuggets their fourth straight home loss.
Denver coach David Adelman said after the game that Murray would be evaluated Tuesday.
“It’s obviously a huge absence offensively,” Adelman said. “Jamal is such a tough player. If he sits out because of pain, it probably hurts. I hope he can come back (for the next game).”
Murray is averaging a career-high 23.3 points, 6.7 assists and 4.5 rebounds in 19 games. He is shooting a career-high 48.3% from the floor and 41.5% from 3-point range.
If Murray, 28, misses the Nuggets’ next game at Indiana on Wednesday, the team will lose three starters. Aaron Gordon (hamstring) and Christian Braun (ankle) are both expected to be out until at least the end of December.
Denver is 4-4 in its last eight games since a 10-2 start.
