Now you can get your flu vaccine at home

Instead of going At the pharmacy to obtain the annual vaccine on the flu, many people in the United States can now have it shipped to their door to take the house themselves.

From today, the Astrazeneca blur is available via an online pharmacy in 34 states. The vagueness is not a new vaccine. It was initially approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2003 and could only be administered by a health professional. But last September, the FDA said that the vaccine could be self-administered.

This is the first foray in Astrazeneca in direct medicine to consumers – a trend is lamp by Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly to sell their popular GLP -1 medications for diabetes and weight management to patients.

“We admitted that people’s daily life is more busy than ever, and we knew that we had to meet people where they are faced with the realities of real life,” said Tonya Villafana, vice-president of medical and scientific affairs in Astrazeneca, during a press conference on Thursday. “Flist Home is designed to eliminate traditional obstacles to vaccination, things like clinical visits planning, queuing and fear of needles.”

Astrazeneca hopes that a home offer will help increase flu vaccination rates. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only 47% of adults are vaccinated against flu. In children, flu vaccination rates fall with those of other infant routine vaccines. As of April 26 of this year, 49.2% of children received vaccination against flu – more than 53.4% at the same time the previous season, according to the CDC.

“Vaccinating every year is the best way to prevent flu, which causes a disease in a substantial proportion of the American population each year and can lead to serious complications, including hospitalization and death,” said Peter Marks, former director of the Biology and Research Center for the FDA, in a statement last year on the approval of the self-administration of the self-administration.

The CDC has classified the 2024-2025 flu season as a high gravity in all age groups in the United States, causing at least 610,000 hospitalizations and 27,000 deaths. It was the most severe influenza season since the Pandemia of Porcine flu H1N1 2009.

Astrazeneca approval in September 2024 was based on a study with beneficiaries of vaccines and caregivers to assess whether the instructions for use have been appropriately designed so that they can safely use the vaccine.

The vaccine contains a weakened shape of the virus of living flu and protects against four types of flu. It is approved for children from 2 to 49 years old. For those under the age of 18, it must be administered by a caregiver.

To order, customers will have to complete a medical screening questionnaire. An approved health care provider will examine each submission to determine eligibility. Once the eligibility is confirmed and that the insurance is checked, the vaccine will be prescribed and dispatched directly to the buyer’s home on a selection date. The vagueness is covered by most insurance plans, but consumers will have to pay delivery costs of $ 8.99.

Astrazeneca claims that Flist is not yet available in all states due to local pharmacy laws, but the company aims to be able to provide home spray to all states contiguous in the future. The vaccine will continue to be available in doctors’ offices and pharmacies for administration by health professionals across the country.
