Nicolas Cage approaches an agreement to play in season 5 of “True Detective” in HBO, Variety learned sources.
The details are held under locks on the new season, but it was revealed earlier this year that season 5 will take place in the Jamaica Bay region in New York.
Cage would be the last high -level star to play a leading role in “True Detective”. The tracks of past seasons include Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Mahershala Ali and Jodie Foster. Harrelson, McConaughey, Ali and Foster have all won Emmy appointments for their respective seasons, while Foster won an Emmy and Golden Globe prize for his work in season 4.
HBO representatives refused to comment.
This would also mark the second role of television in mind that Cage played in his career in his field. It was revealed in 2024 that Cage would play Black Spider-Man in a series live for MGM + and Amazon Prime Video. The program does not have an official release date at the time of this publication, but should make its debut in 2026.
Cage is one of the most famous actors of its generation, having won the Academy Prize for best actor to “leave Las Vegas” and obtained an appointment in the same category for “adaptation”. He is also known for his star roles in films like “Mostruck”, “Raising Arizona”, “Face / Off” and the films “Treasure” and “Ghost Rider”. His recent projects include “Pig”, “Longlegs”, “The unbearable weight of massive talents”, “Dream scenario” and “Renfield”.

“True Detective” was renewed for a fifth season in February 2024 after the success of season 4, alias “True Detective: Night Country”. Issa López returns as a writer and showrunner as part of his global agreement with HBO. According to HBO, season 4 was the most watched payment of the program to date, with 12.7 million multiplatform viewers.
