Nicholas Galitzine explains how the reboot will be different from previous adaptations
Masters of the Universe finally returns to the big screen in 2026, and although the first reactions to the screening tests were very positiveonly time will tell if the reboot can live up to fans’ high expectations.
Nicholas Galitzine was tapped to bring He-Man to life, and set photos showed him looking suitably muscular as Eternia’s new Prince Adam. This will be his biggest role to date, and a character he will likely return to in years to come (provided this first installment is a success).
In an interview with Screen Rant (via Toonado.com), Galitzine shared some new information about what fans can expect from Masters of the Universe. Teasing a new approach to the franchise, The idea of you The star promised fans plenty of epic action balanced with exploration of these characters.
“Honestly, I knew when I received the script that it was very different from the type of films that are in its genre or category,” he started. “There was something incredibly human about the story and so much humor, those are two things I really look for as an actor.”
“Similar to this film, [100 Nights of Hero]there was humor and also emotionality. There’s a bit more action, I guess, with He-Man. [Laughs] But I’m just extremely excited for people to see this movie and meet Adam.”
“Without spoiling too much, I think there’s a really interesting modernity about him,” »continued the actor. “I feel like who he is as a person is a handshake between traditional masculinity and femininity, and I think it’s very exciting to be able to play that in such a huge studio film.”
“Obviously the action and the sets are amazing, but there’s also a really human story. I think if I’m going to do something with this level of spectacle, I have to have that too.” Galitzine concludes.
He’s definitely saying all the right things here. Plus, between that and reports of costumes very close to the classic cartoon, it looks like Masters of the Universe hits all the right notes. Even Jared Leto’s version of Skeletor is praised.
As noted, if this reboot is successful, the plan will likely be Masters of the Universe to generate sequels, spin-offs and prequels. Of course, only time will tell how audiences will respond to this effort and whether there is still an appetite for stories featuring He-Man.
Directed by Bumblebee pilot Travis Knight, Masters of the Universe the cast will be directed by Nicholas Galitzine (The idea of you) like He-Man and Jared Leto (Morbius) as the villainous Skeletor.
Also part of the ensemble is Alison Brie (Promising young woman) as Skeletor’s lieutenant, Evil-Lyn; Camila Mendes (Riverdale) as He-Man’s trusted companion, Teela; and Idris Elba (Thor: Ragnarok) as Teela’s father, Man-at-Arms.
Other notable additions to the cast include Sam C. Wilson (Dragon House) as a trap jaw; Kojo Attah (The beekeeper) the Tri-Klops; Hafthor Björnsson (Game of Thrones) as a goat-man; Morena Baccarin (Deadpool and Wolverine) like The Witch; Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (Vikings) like Fisto; and Jon Xu Zhang (Ethernels) like Ram-Man.
Masters of the Universe arrives in theaters on June 5, 2026.
