NFL: Tennessee Titans fire head coach Brian Callahan after dismal start to season | NFL News

The Tennessee Titans have fired head coach Brian Callahan after a dismal start to the season that left the franchise at the bottom of the AFC South.

The Titans’ 20-10 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday improved their record to 1-5, having also lost to the Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Rams, Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans.

Tennessee ended a four-game losing streak to start the campaign with a one-point win over the Arizona Cardinals in early October, but the most recent loss to the Raiders proved to be Callahan’s last at the helm.

A statement from the Titans read: “These decisions are never easy, and they become more difficult when they involve people of high moral character.

“We are grateful for Brian’s investment in the Titans and Tennessee community during his tenure as head coach.

“We thank him and his family for being exemplary ambassadors of the Tennessee Titans.

“Our players, our fans and our community deserve a football team that reaches a level that we are not currently reaching, and we are committed to making the difficult decisions necessary to achieve and maintain that level.”

Callahan coached the Titans for a total of 23 games, going to a disastrous 4-19 record.

The Nashville-based team’s struggles came despite No. 1 overall draft pick Cam Ward being their starting quarterback.

The Titans will face the New England Patriots next Sunday.

Former Titans head coach Mike Vrabel – fired by Tennessee in January 2024 after six seasons at the helm – is at the helm of the Patriots, who are 4-2 this year.
