Cincinnati Open results: Jannik Sinner beats Adrian Mannarino to reach the last eight

The world number one Jannik Sinner has reached the quarter-finals of Cincinnati Open with a 6-4 7-6 (7-4) victory over an obstinate Adrian Mannarino.
Sinner quickly took control of the match when he broke the 37 -year -old Frenchman in the third match.
Mannarino, ranked 89th in the world, saved a break in the seventh game with an ace, but the left -handed could not prevent his opponent from claiming the first set.
The game was suspended for the rain with the sinner 40-30 in service and 2-1 in the second set, before the players resumed about two hours and 45 minutes later.
Mannarino proved to be a more obstinate competitor in the second set, but, despite three points of breakup at 5-5, finally died in the fourth when he succeeded in a setback to go 6-5.
The sinner was 30-0 when he was used for the match, but an inspired tennis won his first breakdown in Mannarino he took with a superb forehand return.
However, the sinner produced consecutive Aces to win the Tie-Break 7-4 and extend his record with four victories in as many matches against Mannarino.
“It’s a difficult opponent,” said Sinner. “Very different from all the other opponents. Not only because it is a left but also how it strikes the ball – it’s very low.
“I had a little trouble closing it, but it can happen in this sport and I am very happy to be in the next round.”
Elsewhere, Alexander Zverev needed only one match to finish his victory over Brandon Nakashima after the rain forced his match to be suspended during the night with the 5-4 score in the second set.
Zverev increased 6-4 6-4 and will play on Wednesday when he faces Karen Khachanv Russian in the fourth round.
Meanwhile, the seventh seeded Holger Rune is in the quarter-finals after his opponent, the 10th American seeded Frances Tiafoe, retired with a back injury while dragging 6-4 3-1.
In the female draw, the Wimbledon champion, Iga Swiatek, reached the last eight with a 6-4 6-3 victory against Sorana Cirstea.
The world number three Swiatk, Poland, struck 33 unrefitted errors against the Romanian, but managed to finish his match before the Rain’s delay.
“I wanted to be stronger than in my last game,” said Swiatek. “I am satisfied with the level of my goal and consistency.
“It was a good match.
After the suspension of their competition on Tuesday, his compatriot Magda Linette finished an upheaval of 7-6 (7-5) 3-6 6-3 against the fourth American seeded Jessica Pegula.
