Newcastle makes 40 million pounds sterling “monster” a key target
Newcastle United will aim to strengthen its defense this summer, and Marc Geuhi is still reserved as a target.
The defender of Crystal Palace has been on the club’s radar for some time now and, with his contract which expires next year, Eddie Howe could seek to conclude an agreement to bring him to the club.
A recent report indicates that the Toon could be able to conclude an agreement worth 40 million pounds sterling to sign Guehi this summer, taking into account its status as a contract.
With another interest in him elsewhere, however, Howe could target an alternative?
Newcastle could target a decision for the defender of Liverpool
While Guehi has been a target for the Magpies for some time now, it seems that he may be missing the boat.
According to The Chronicle, the central defender of Liverpool, Jarell Quansah, is a player who remains on the club’s radar this summer, while they are trying to strengthen their defensive options.
Although the Anfield team won the title of the Premier League last quarter, the Englishman played a role of bit in success and could go to new pastures.
He also attracts the interest of Bayer Leverkusen, Erik Ten Hag seeking to launch an offer worth 40 million pounds sterling for the Liverpool starlet this summer.
While Guehi remains one of the players that Howe is desperate to bring to Newcastle, the window becomes shorter for this decision to happen.
Could it perhaps conclude an agreement to bring Quansah North instead? Only time will tell us.
Why Newcastle must sign Jarell Quansah
There is no doubt that Guehi is heading for the peak years of his career. He will be 25 next month and helped Palace win the FA Cup last month.
Quansah, on the other hand, has just been 22 years earlier this year and still has a lot of years before he reached his peak, which is why he could be a dream alternative to the star of the Eagles.

As you can see in the table above, England U21 International has the potential to offer more than Guehi from a defensive perspective, because it has won a higher percentage of its duels and has on average more plated and interceptions for 90 in the Premier League.
Under Jürgen Klopp, the defender made 17 championship appearances throughout the 2023/24 campaign. He impressed considerably, ending the season with a success rate of 89% while winning 64% of his total duels challenged and losing possession of 8.4 times per game.
Compared to its peers in the elite this season, Quansah has also been placed in the highest 11% for air duels won by 90 (3.4) and in the upper 3% for non-penalty goals (0.15) per 90.
It was perhaps not surprising that he was nicknamed an “absolute monster” of the talent Scout Jacek Kulig this season for his performances. He did not quite installed alongside Arne during the first season of the Dutch in Anfield.
The defender was limited to only 25 appearances in 2024/25, with only 13 of those who come to the departure XI.
Does he need a new start to make his potential? Newcastle would be the perfect place for him to win a regular game.
With the football of the Champions League on the horizon, Quansah could become a regular of Howwe to the Magpies as a dream alternative to Guehi this summer.
