Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing four managers as potential replacements for Eddie Howe amid the Magpies’ current poor form.

It’s been a difficult start to the season for Newcastle, who find themselves in 14th place in the Premier League table after just three wins in their opening eleven games.

Howe’s side may be struggling to balance the extra matches this season as they return to the Champions League, where they have performed quite well.

Yet the Daily Mirror has reported on Howe’s situation and named four potential managerial candidates to watch in case the hierarchy at St James’ Park decide to make a change.

The four names who look likely to be options for the NUFC are: Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna and former Barcelona boss Xavi.

Of these, Xavi is the only one currently out of work and available, which could make him the most realistic option.

At the same time, however, the Spanish tactician is not the most experienced name, so Newcastle could well turn to Iraola and Glasner due to their proven success in the Premier League.

Howe earned more time at Newcastle

Overall, though, Howe has surely earned the opportunity to try and lead Newcastle out of their current predicament.

The English tactician has done a superb job since taking charge, winning the club’s first silver medal in decades last season with that Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool.

Selling Alexander Isak this summer will only have made things more difficult for Newcastle, but Howe has surely shown he is well placed to help turn things back in the right direction.
