Yashasvi Jaiswal transforms into all-rounder to impress Gautam Gambhir and find a place in the ODI side

India cricket team star Yashasvi Jaiswal is working hard on his bowling as he warms the bench amid the ongoing IND vs AUS ODI series. The batter, who is a regular in the Test team, has played just one ODI so far and has been sidelined majorly because of the lack of space in the current playing XI. While he has been included as a back-up opener in the squad and is with the team in Australia, Jaiswal is wasting no time in honing his bowling skills, in a fresh approach to try and break into the playing XI.

Jaiswal’s fresh approach to break into ODI team

Addressing a press conference ahead of the IND vs AUS 2nd ODI in Adelaide, India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak revealed that Jaiswal wanted to bowl more and was looking more consistent now. He said that it was a positive side for both the team and the individual. Head coach Gautam Gambhir’s obsession with all-rounders and giving them preference in the playing XI is no secret. Hence, Jaiswal’s strategy to focus on his bowling in order to make it to the playing XI makes absolute sense.

“Jaiswal always puts a leg spin. He wants to bowl more and more. He looks more consistent now. So obviously, he is working more on his bowling. That is a positive sign anyway,” Kotak said.

At present, there is no space for Jaiswal in the ODI line-up despite having all the required credentials to secure a spot. He plays as an opener – a position that is currently occupied by captain Shubman Gill an former skipper Rohit Sharma. Thus, Jaiswal would have to wait till Rohit retires to break into the ODI team. The only ODI that the southpaw has been a part of was against England earlier this year where he managed to score 15 runs.
