New poll of Virginia’s three statewide races confirms Democrats’ worst fears amid Jay Jones scandal – RedState

In the wake of the Jay Jones texting scandal, one of the biggest questions people had — besides whether he would drop out of the race — was whether it would impact not only the attorney general race, but also the races for governor and lieutenant governor.

A new poll released Saturday indicates that is the case. But before we get to that, let’s quickly recap another poll that was a strong indicator that the scandal had damaged Jones.

As RedState previously reported, there were signs early on that it hurt Jones and helped GOP Attorney General Jason Miyares. The Jones campaign released an internal poll on October 8, five days after the texts were released, showing him with just one point difference – a statistical tie. As we’ve noted, internal polls are notorious for often showing their candidate in a stronger position than they actually are, meaning Jones was, in reality, likely behind at this point in the race, similar to McAuliffe’s 2021 implosion.

Trafalgar released new figures on Saturday which confirmed that Miyares had jumped and was indeed now ahead of Jones, in a poll taken from 8th to 10th:

In another positive development, there was also notable movement in the gubernatorial race and the lieutenant governor race, with both races tightening from the previous Trafalgar poll, which was conducted before the texting scandal broke and before the debate between Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears (R) and Abigail Spanberger (Democrat), where the former congresswoman didn’t have a good night’s sleep at all:

As Earle-Sears and Miyares noted, these races have evolved from a question of issues to a question of character and who is best suited, from a moral standpoint, to fill these offices and represent the people of the Commonwealth.

Although strong arguments could have been made before Jones’ texts were announced about Virginia Democrats’ unfitness for statewide office, the way they responded afterward only made the point clearer.

Jay Jones not only thinks he’s above the law (read more about that here), but he also thinks it’s okay to fantasize about killing his political opponents and their children, and (allegedly) killing cops. Abigail Spanberger not only refuses to distance herself from Jones, she doesn’t even bother to show any emotion or answer questions about how she would feel if her own children were victims of the harmful policies she supports, like boys in girls’ locker rooms.

Democratic candidates across the state of Virginia are counting on Democratic privilege to carry them through the turbulence of this race and to victory. But the state is only halfway through its early voting period, so Virginia voters have plenty of time between now and Election Day to make their voices heard and do what they did in 2021: send Democrats packing.
