Netflix revives a spin-off series from Witcher canceled in a new format

Season 4 of “The Witcher” is almost on our doors, with Liam Hemsworth to replace Henry Cavill as Geralt de Rivia for the rest of the Netflix Fantasy Behemoth race (with season 5 already confirmed to be his last). The good news, however, is that Netflix plans to return to this universe – namely, by resuscitating a spin -off which was previously canceled for having apparently been a disaster.

According to What’s on Netflix, “The Rats: A Witcher’s Tale” – a project that was previously planned in series – was reused as a feature film. Details on the “rats” are kept near the vest for the moment, but the point of sale reports that it will be a story of robbery that revolves around a group of adolescent torments that decide to steal the most dangerous criminals in the kingdom. Mairzee Almas – whose previous Netflix collaborations include “The Sandman” and “Shadow & Bone” – will run from a script by Hilaly Hall, who has been working on “The Witcher” since 2019.

This is a new exciting for fans of “Witcher”, because it means that the franchise will continue its expansion after the main series, as well as for the “Blood Origins” spin-offs “,” Nightmare of the Wolf “and” Sirens of the Deep “spin-offs. In addition,” The Rats: A Witcher’s Tale “would have endured a Miracle that it even exists.

Rats: a witchcraft has been described as a disaster

“The Rats: A Witcher’s Tale” came into production in 2023, the shooting which takes place in South Africa until unhappy circumstances have stopped it. According to various reports on the issue, everything went wrong behind the scenes – so much so that the project was put aside after two months of filming, as opposed to the six originally planned. SAG-AFTRA strikes could have played a role in the project to leave the rails, but who knows with certainty?

In this spirit, the decision to transform “The Rats: A Witcher’s Tale” into a film could come from its creatives not having enough sequences to justify an entire series, which will ask the question: will this film be similar to Dr Frankenstein repairing the assorted remains and creating a deeply spinous creature? Let’s just hope that the distribution and the show of the show have turned enough key moments to transform it into a coherent story, because the details we have at the moment are not 100%reassuring.

At the same time, it is quite possible that the creators of the film captured more sequences to compensate for the disorderly production process afterwards. Anyway, “The Rats: A Witcher’s Tale” should be published in the near future, and the final product will confirm if it is the disaster of its reputation so far.

Season 4 of “The Witcher” will be broadcast on October 30, 2025 on Netflix.
