Nelly Furtado announces hiatus from live concerts

Nelly Furtado is ready to turn off the stage lights.

The “I’m Like a Bird” singer announced a major change in her career, revealing plans to take an indefinite break from performing and touring.

“I have decided to step away from performing for the near future,” she wrote in an Instagram post on Oct. 23, “and pursue other creative and personal endeavors that I believe would be a better fit for this next phase of my life.”

The 46-year-old then thanked her fans and collaborators “for all the years of fun, community and wonder” since the release of her debut album. Wow, Nelly! in October 2000.

“I have enjoyed my career immensely and I still love writing music because I always considered it a hobby that I was lucky enough to turn it into a career,” she continued. “I will forever identify as a songwriter.”

Nelly also shared a positive message for aspiring musicians hoping to follow in her footsteps, wishing “many years of fruitful and passionate performances” to the “new generation of artists.”
