Nbcuniversal plans to launch channel sports cable with the NBA, peacock offers

In the wake, which runs a large part of its cable assets in a new company, NBCUNIVERSAL plans to launch a new cable sports chain, according to media reports.

Although this decision has not yet been formalized by Nbcuniversal, the chain would mainly carry the current sports offers in Peacock, including the NBA. If Greenlit, the chain could be launched in the fall, according to the Wall Street Journal, which reported the news for the first time.

An autumn launch would be aligned with the fact that the 11 -year rights agreement of NBC with the kick -off of the NBA, with NBA games which should broadcast NBC as well as Stream on Peacock. The new channel would be made available to cable and satellite distributors as part of a set of similar networks, according to the newspaper.

Nbcuniversal refused to provide a comment for this story.

The potential launch of a wired network seems counter-intuitive for Nbcuniversal, which is running a large part of its wired channels in an autonomous company called the slope, which should be completed by the end of the year. The active ingredients have detached themselves from NBCUNIVERIVERSAL with slope include CNBC, MSNBC, USA Network, Oxygen, E!, Syfy, Golf Channel and Digital Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, Golfnow and Sportsengine, while Bravo, NBC and Peacock stay with NBCUNIVERSAL.

That said, sports were more and more one of the only constants in the industry guaranteed to call on viewers, with a large part of the linear television faced with a declining audience.

Before the launch of the NBA on Peacock and NBC, NBCUNIVERIVERSAL withdraws the big canons to attract viewers, in particular by bringing the legend of Basketball Michael Jordan as a special contributor to the cover of the season starting in October and by launching interactive features on Peacock to fans entirely of the NBA.
