Jaume Munar against Francisco Cerundolo (Mar)
I have mentioned Munar on these pages lately, highlighting his decent season, especially on Lescourcues.
The Spaniard made the semi-finals in Hong Kong and Dallas at the start of the campaign and last week in Washington, he beat Marcos Giron before meeting a possible finalist Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
He started this week with an overwhelming 6-3 6-0 victory against the qualifier Dan Martin, so he looks lying on the surface.
The same cannot be said of Cerundolo, who will play his first game in Rigid Zone since Miami in March.
Argentinian is more than capable of this surface, but he is more a man of clay and he can take the time to readjust. It is not the kind of opponent who will give you a lot of latitude to do so.
Munar has a 2-1 sheet during previous meetings (all on clay), although I think it is significant that he won the last competition that was played at the altitude in Cordoba. The faster conditions there will be more like those found in Toronto than to Down at sea level where the two victories of Cerundolo came.
Essentially, I am happy to support Munar in disagreement here.
Giovanni Mpeshi Perricard against Holger Rune (Mar)
It seems an awkward opener for Rune, who was forced to leave Washington with a back problem last week.
It will therefore be his first match in the rigid zone since the spring and, in particular, this Miami competition saw it beaten by the great statement of Reilly Opelka.
Mettshi Perricard will slam his own bombs in it and which will serve – the one who exceeded 153 MPH during Wimbledon – has already confused the rune.
The pair met last fall in Basel where the Frenchman won in straight sets and did not face a break point of any match.
He passed the past Shintaro Mochizuki in the first round and could deprive an upheaval here.
Lorenzo Musetti against James Duckworth (Mar)
Musetti had had a good season until the injury in the semi-finals of France.
His two games since have been lost, including last week in Washington, where Cam Norrie beat the star of the top-10.
Perhaps lacking in confidence in his own body, Musetti could be vulnerable here against a player whose confidence, on the other hand, will be in place.
Duckworth launched his Hardcourt summer season while reaching the quarter -finals in Los Cabos, where Alejandro Davidovich Fokina – last week finalist in Washington – was one of his victims.
In Toronto, he has already come by qualifications and beaten Juncheng Shang, all without losing a set.
In addition, Duckworth won the only previous meeting in the pair, although it returned in 2021 (on Indoor Hard in Paris).
There are several options for bettors here, including Duckworth’s support on the handicap where he obtained a start of 4.5 games.
Duckworth to win a set at 13/10 is another, but I’m going to shoot for the stars and rally to him to win the match to what seems an important prize of 18/5.
