The presidential runoff in Poland this weekend should be a very tight race, with surveys published on Friday showing the two candidates separated by a thin margin like a razor.

A survey commissioned by the ONET portal shows that the liberal mayor of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski with 50.1% of the vote, followed closely by the right -wing curator Karol Nawrocki with 49.9%.

Another survey, commanded by the Wirtualna Polska portal, came to a different conclusion, putting Nawrocki in advance with 50.63% of the votes and Trzaskowski with 49.37%.

The election of Sunday promises to have a decisive impact on the future journey of Poland and its relations with the European Union.

A victory for the pro-European Trzaskowski, which belongs to the civic coalition of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, would allow Tusk to advance his reformist program.

Nawrocki, on the other hand, comes from the Conservative party of nationalist law and justice, such as outgoing president Andrzej Duda, who has blocked many legislative projects of the government with his veto.

In Poland, the president has a five -year term and has large powers, in particular by representing the country abroad, influencing foreign policy, appointing the head of government and the cabinet and serving as commander -in -chief of the armed forces in the event of war.

The polling stations close at 9 p.m. (1900 GMT) on Sunday. Although preliminary estimates are available shortly after, their margin of error is greater than the difference between the two candidates in the polls.

The official result is expected on Monday.
