The so-called scratchgate fiasco may have attracted a lot of attention since Apple released its last iPhones, but I had difficulties with a different problem.
In recent weeks, my iPhone air has struggled to make and receive calls, and there have been periods in which I completely lost the service, even after turning off my phone and again.
After digging online, it seems that others have encountered similar problems. Phone Arena underlined the Reddit wires in which iPhone owners cite cellular signal problems, whether they have a service with Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile. I transferred my Verizon service from my iPhone 16 Pro Max to the iPhone Air, and I started to have problems after that.

Like I was going to resign and change my service to my old iPhone, Apple deploys an update with iOS 26.0.1 designed to solve the problem. According to the publication notes, Apple says that this update will correct the fact that “a small number of iPhone users may not be able to connect to a cellular network after updating to iOS 26.”
IOS 26.0.1 should solve cellular network problems, among other problems with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
The breakdowns I experienced were sporadic. One day last week, my friend sent a text to what she was trying to call me, but it didn’t happen; I had to return several times before I could reach it. The same thing happened with a handful of other calls that I tried to make. During the weekend, my mother tried to contact me all day and was sometimes directed directly to voicemail – just like some other calls. I did not realize these appeal attempts that failed because someone informed me later; There is no way to know exactly how many rings I missed.
The most frustrating instance was when I was shopping with my friend and I lost the service for several hours. My phone stayed in SOS mode, even after restarting it, and I had to hunt the Wi-Fi in store just to send it an SMS to my exact location so that she can find me. (We both have Verizon, and its iPhone 16 Pro Max, which still performs iOS 18, has had no problem.)
I asked my CNET colleagues if they had encountered similar problems, and it seems that my experience with the iPhone Air was an aberrant value. My iPhone 17 had no problem, nor the iPhone 17 Pro Max by Patrick Holland or Jeff Carlson’s iPhone 17 Pro.
When I saw iOS 26.0.1, I updated my phone immediately. So I hope that my mother no longer thinks that I do not know her calls.
