“My house and the earth were visibly trembling”: Blazing Meteor Thrils lies in the center of Victoria | Victoria

Residents of the center of Victoria reported having seen a large meteor crossing the night sky on Sunday, some people describing an extremely brilliant ball of fire and a strong sound when the object passed over.

Dozens of clips and witness accounts were shared in the Facebook group Australian Meteor Reports.

Saskia Reus-Smit, from Fryerstown, posted to the group that they had seen the weather pass “directly above my head, very low, seemed lower than a plane … pretty close to see the burning definition, like a burning orange-burning rock, nuances of clearly visible black rock formation”.

Shortly after, Reus-Smit knew “a massive boom, more like an impact than Sonic Boom, but could have been. My house and the earth were visibly trembling ”.

Terrence Dale, who lives in Eildon, wrote on Facebook that he saw the meteor at 7:35 p.m.

“Bas on the horizon and it was blue and red in color and was extremely long, it fell from my sight due to the mountain range near the place where we live,” Dale wrote.

“I knew what it was by reading a lot on the social networks of a meteor shower which takes place soon, I just came outside by a very clear night and I was looking in the right direction.”

Dale said he had been amazed by the screen.

The meteor was also captured by the camera of the Pendergast hut on MT Buller, at 7:40 p.m.

Astrophysicist and astronomer Jarti Horner, of the University of Southern Queensland, confirmed that it was a meteor who had illuminated the sky.

“It was definitely a meteor. Because of its shine, we describe it as a” fire ball “- which simply means a meteor that was brighter in the sky than the planet Venus,” said Horner.

“From his shine and the fact that there was a rumble boom widely heard a few minutes after his appearance, it seems likely that fragments could have surrendered to the ground.”

He said to his knowledge that nothing had yet been found-although it was not surprising, because meteorites are difficult to find, he said.
