Elon Musk is in a battle with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s press office over the Tesla CEO’s transgender daughter, whose name is Vivian Jenna Wilson.
The feud began when Musk’s America PAC reposted a clip of Newsom on “The Ezra Klein Show” in which he said, “No governor has done more pro-trans legislation than me.” The governor made the comment while discussing his stance on transgender athletes competing in women’s sports, an issue on which Newsom has broken away from other prominent Democrats.
While interviewing Charlie Kirk, CEO of Turning Point USA, in the inaugural episode of his podcast, “Here’s Gavin Newsom,” the California governor made waves by saying it was “deeply unfair” to have transgender athletes in women’s sports.
Newsom’s press office responded to America PAC’s comment on “The Ezra Klein Show” clip by attacking Musk.

“That’s right. We’re sorry your daughter hates you, Elon,” the governor’s press office wrote on X, a platform owned by Musk.
The SpaceX CEO came back with a scathing response, doubling down on his refusal to call Wilson his daughter.
“I assume you are referring to my son, Xavier, who suffers from a tragic mental illness caused by the evil waking mind virus you are spreading on vulnerable children. I love Xavier dearly and hope he recovers,” Musk wrote. “My daughters are Azure, Exa (her name is Y), and Arcadia, and they really love me.”

Musk shared his thoughts on minors undergoing such surgery during a 2024 interview with Dr. Jordan Peterson. The Tesla CEO said he was “essentially misled” into giving consent for Wilson to take puberty blockers.
“This happened to one of my older boys, where I was tricked into signing documents for one of my older boys, Xavier. This was before I understood what was going on. COVID was going on, so there was a lot of confusion, and I was told that Xavier might kill himself if he didn’t do it,” Musk told Peterson.

He then spoke about the concept of “deadnaming,” or calling a transgender person by their birth name.
“Basically, I lost my son. They call it a dead name for a reason,” Musk said. “The reason it’s called ‘deadnaming’ is because your son died. So, my son Xavier is dead, killed by the awakened mind virus.”
Musk added that after what happened, he “vowed to destroy the awakened mind virus.”
