Mullanpur Stadium ready for its first international matches despite rain problems | Cricket news

Chandigarh: Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh (Mullanpur) will host its first international games next week when the Indian women’s team will face Australia in two day internationals (ODI) on September 14 and 17, as part of the Australia Women’s Tour of India.In view of the matches, the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) focused on preparations, prolonged precipitation in the region emerging as a key concern. PCA president, Amarjit Singh, said the place is fully equipped to meet international standards and that land staff is ready to deal with the challenges related to weather conditions.“The drainage system is good. Even if we feel strong precipitation, the water will lighten in a maximum of 40 to 45 minutes,” said Singh, meeting the concerns about wet conditions.In addition to the playing surface, arrangements have been taken for the stay, travel and team training. Stade installations include nets for training, a gymnasium and a recovery room. With a capacity of 38,000 seats, the stadium is also equipped with projectors to accommodate daylights.PCA officials said the security and management of crowds had been drawn up in coordination with the police. The association also assured that the infrastructure within the stadium corresponds to what is expected in international sites.The two matches against Australia mark the first time that the Mullanpur stadium will host international cricket.
