Late night host Jimmy Kimmel delivered a Christmas message to the UK attacking President Donald Trump, saying “tyranny is on the rise” in the US, while taunting him over his show’s return to the airwaves earlier this year.

Kimmel was selected this year to deliver Channel 4’s annual “Alternative Christmas Message”, a long-running counter-programming speech broadcast opposite the BBC’s traditional Royal Christmas message.

“But I know what’s going on here and I can tell you that, from the point of view of fascism, it’s been a very good year,” Kimmel said. “Tyranny is on the rise here.”

He told the audience that they may have read in the newspaper that “the president of my country would like to silence me because I don’t worship him the way he likes to be worshipped,” and that the United States government “made a threat against me and the company I work for, and all of a sudden we went off the air.”

“But then, do you know what happened?” » asked Kimmel. “A Christmas miracle happened. Well, it was in September, it was a September miracle. But the holidays seem to come earlier and earlier every year, don’t they? Millions and millions of people stood up and said, ‘No, this is not acceptable.'”

The late-night host claimed that even “people who publicly said they hated my show” spoke out and marched in support of the “right to free speech,” and because of those efforts, his show was brought back.

“Our show came back stronger than ever. We won, the president lost, and now I’m back on the air every night giving the most powerful politician in the world a fair and well-deserved crap,” he said. “It’s a word, isn’t it?” Did I use it correctly?

Kimmel told the audience that the reason he’s telling this story is because they might be thinking, “Oh, a government silencing its critics is something that happens in countries like Russia, or North Korea, or Los Angeles, not the UK.”

“Well, that’s what we thought, and now we have King Donny VIII calling for executions. It’s happening fast,” he added.

“We’re not brilliant. We’re Americans. No one knows better than you that we’re always a little late in the game, but are we ever getting out of it? Maybe. Give us about three years. Please. Thanks for your patience and thanks for Spider-Man. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays,” he finished.

The White House did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
