Mount Rainier Treathquake Swarm shrinks

Portland Ore. (KPTV) – All volcanoes in the waterfall range have normal activity levels, according to the United States Geological Survey on Friday.

Mount Rainier experienced his largest swarm of earthquake in more than a decade last month, with more than 1,100 earthquakes recorded since July 8. According to the USGS, the swarm is underway at low intensity. About 50 earthquakes have been recorded in the last seven days. Scientists say it is a sign that the swarm is weakening.

Even at its peak, with several earthquakes per minute, the swarm was not a cause of alarm, the scientists said.

“Mont Rainier generally sees around nine earthquakes per month,” said agencies in a joint update. “Swarms like this occur once or twice a year, although it is larger than usual.”
