Morocco will face Comoros at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in the opening match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday. The Atlas Lions are set to host the continental competition for the first time since 1988 and will be eager to start with a victory.
Morocco opened their CAN 2023 campaign against Tanzania and secured a 3-0 victory thanks to goals from Romain Saïss, Azzedine Ounahi and Youssef En-Nesyri, who were all named in the squad for this year’s edition. However, they were knocked out in the round of 16 after a shock 2-0 defeat to South Africa and will be aiming for a deeper run this time around.

The Comoros, meanwhile, are set to participate in their second CAN in their history after a superb qualifying campaign which saw them finish ahead of Tunisia in their group. They made their debut in the tournament in the 2021 edition, starting with a 1–0 defeat against Gabon, although they would eventually advance to the round of 16.
The Coelacantes will now aim for a positive start to the tournament this weekend before facing Zambia and Mali the following week.

As the top-ranked African team and with home advantage, Morocco are the clear favorites in this match and will be confident of starting the tournament with a victory.
The Coelacantes, on the other hand, have lost three of their last four matches and face a difficult task against superior opposition. Getting a result would take a huge effort, and they will likely focus on maintaining a respectable score.
