Rick and Morty Co-creator and Showrunner describe him as a “limitless sandbox” with “as much freedom as an anthology show”

After seven seasons with an eighth on the way, what is Rick and Morty at this stage? The animated science fiction adventure show played with different genres, the construction of episodes and much more. Gamesradar + spoke with the co-creator Dan Harmon as well as the executive producer and Showrunner Scott Marder before the new season, and the answer is not surprising: it’s complicated.
“Certainly, I don’t know what it would be,” said Harmon when I ask if there is a directive on what Rick and Morty are at this stage. “I mean, obviously, it is focused on the characters, but even that we are strengthening. I mean, who are these people? As, literally who? How do you know when they are they?”
I think it is defined by the fact that it is like an unlimited sandbox for a narrative program that has as much freedom as an anthology show, “he continues.” And it is a paradox, because that is what defines it, it is its lack of definition, I suppose. “”
MARDER, however, actually thinks that this is directly beneficial for Rick and Morty as a whole. The absence of strict definition allows the team to be played and inhibited.
“I think that’s what makes him move forward,” explains Marder. “I think that the lack of railing has kept the idea that the idea flows and light and let go in a way that a show, if we were simply stuck in a small set every week, would be really head.
