Diego Luna celebrates the use of comedy to “defend freedom”: “It’s in our hands to do something”

For his last night, the accommodation of the guests “Jimmy Kimmel Live”, the acclaimed actor Diego Luna used his monologue to celebrate comedy and satire as weapons against “authoritarian leaders”.
The actor obviously referred to Donald Trump, although he did not speak the name, rather urging the public of the show to use his voice to “defend freedom” and democracy, and in the end, suggesting that they attend the next “no kings” demonstration in July.
“It was really a great week for me. And before concluding, my last monologue … I mean something. I know there is a lot of concentration in your media on the differences between our cultures and violence south of the border, but I hope this week, I was able to open the dialogue,” said Luna. “We should do more. Tell our stories and find what connects us. Yes.”
“We must not let our cultural exchange be divided by borders, by ignorance, by fear, or a wall built by your president, which he paid, moreover. “The leaders who attack the press, use the army against their own citizens and claim to have the answer to everything. Does that seem familiar to you? ”
“But it is in our hands to do something. There are many ways to grow back. And a way is to make fun of them every night like Jimmy,” continued Luna. “Use comedy, using comedy to defend freedom. They don’t like this S-. And we cannot hold that for granted because we, the public, must defend spaces like this.”
“Without satire and voice like Jimmy, who question and challenge the abuse of power, democracy does not weaken, she can disappear, and we cannot let this happen,” said Luna, adding: “There are many things that the rest of us can do as well. Likes to vote. And volunteer. And walking. Because you know what these strong men really don’t like?”
Luna reminded the public the second “No Kings” demonstration, scheduled for July 17, and joked that people should go, “I mean if you are not going to a Kid Rock concert that day”, a reference to the rapper who is also a friend and supporter of Trump.
“You know that by making your voice heard, you will not make the United States of America again, you will help improve the world a little,” he added.
