Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbor’s Absences Addressed at ‘Stranger Things’ Event

The absences of Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbor at a Stranger Things the final celebration did not go unnoticed.

Brown and Harbor were originally scheduled to attend the Paley Museum exhibit. Stranger Things: The Final Season Celebration in New York on Thursday, December 18, but they both pulled out of their planned appearances before the event.

Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, Maya Hawke, Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Jamie Campbell Bower and the Duffer brothers were all on hand for a panel discussion moderated by Collider’s Perri Nemiroff.

Nemiroff started the discussion by recognizing the two missing stars. “Before we begin our conversation today, we just want to acknowledge that obviously the entire group could not be here tonight,” she said.

“So, to everyone who is not with us on stage, they send you their greetings and thanks for being here.”

Brown, 21, withdrew from the event two days after missing a planned appearance on Hello America. She explained in a pre-recorded video broadcast during the morning show that she “took a fall” while showing her arm in a sling, and was therefore unable to escape. “Hey, everyone GMA, I’m so sorry I couldn’t be there with you guys,” she said.

The injury was also the reason she was unable to attend the Paley Museum event, as a spokesperson told PEOPLE: “Unfortunately, due to a recent injury, Millie is no longer able to attend the mat or discussion.”

The spokesperson said Harbour, 50, would not attend “due to a scheduling conflict.”

His absence came after a December 17 report from TMZ that he had acted erratically at a gastro pub in Encinitas, California, the previous weekend. PEOPLE has reached out to Harbour’s rep for comment.

Harbor and Brown’s absences from the event come after they made headlines ahead of the Season 5 Volume 1 premiere in November, as the Daily Mail reported that Brown filed a bullying and harassment complaint against his co-star.

The outlet reported the anonymous source’s claims that she filed the complaint before production on Season 5 began and that it included “pages and pages of accusations,” which reportedly resulted in an investigation that “lasted months.”

At the Season 5 premiere in Los Angeles, following the report, Brown and Harbor were laughing and smiling together and had nothing but nice things to say about each other.

“I obviously had a very special bond with David because we have a father-daughter relationship and we shoot every scene together,” Brown said. Entertainment tonight of their on-screen dynamic as Eleven and Hopper.

“It’s been so special to have him throughout my journey,” she said.

Volume 1 of Stranger Things season 5 is now streaming on Netflix. Volume 2 releases on December 25, followed by the finale on December 31 at 8 p.m. ET.
