Hulu’s Perfect Solar Opposites Replacement for Rick and Morty Canceled

Although Solar opposites finished with season 6, Hulu’s underrated show is still a perfect recommendation for Rick and Morty fans. Rick and Morty‘s eight seasons have had their ups and downs, but the series remains one of the most consistently acclaimed adult animated comedies on television.

The Adult Swim hit is famous for mixing subversive parodies of sci-fi tropes with a warped sitcom setup, as beleaguered Morty attempts to rein in his unhinged super-genius grandfather, Rick. However, Rick and Morty‘s spiritual successor used many of the same plot ingredients to create a show that was just as funny, but much goofier and lighter.

This may seem strange, since Rick and Morty isn’t exactly known for his serious tone. However, the darker episodes of the series, like “Unmortricken” or Rick and MortyThe season 7 finale of “Fear No Mort” proved that the show is trying to flesh out its main characters and give them some nuance and humanity.

Hulu’s Solar Opposites Ends with Season 6

Sci-fi comedy stars Dan Stevens and Thomas Middleditch as mismatched aliens

The Solars all scream in terror on camera in Season 6 of Solar Opposites.

It’s not a priority in Hulu’s surreal Solar oppositesan animated comedy that shares many members of its creative team with the creators of Rick and Morty. Solar opposites follows a family of aliens who crash-land on Earth and wonder if the planet is better than their home planet while getting into all sorts of scrapes and absurd misadventures.

Led by the irascible Korvo, the Solar Opposites clan consists of Thomas Middleditch’s distracted Terry, Sean Giambrone’s immature Yumyulack, and Mary Mack’s good-natured Jesse. The family is as dysfunctional as any classic sitcom brood, but that’s not helped by the fact that they struggle to fit in on Earth.

This all seems to set up a pretty standard fish-out-of-water story, but Solar oppositesThe self-aware humor quickly abandoned this predictable approach for something stranger. Each episode is a self-contained adventure as the Solar Opposites attempt to launch a new get-rich-quick scheme, another ill-advised experiment, or another pointless feud with human characters.

Unfortunately, Solar opposites ended on October 13 after five years and six seasons on Hulu. Luckily, viewers who haven’t caught up with Korvo, Terry, Yumyulack, and Jesse have 63 episodes of adventure to explore, as well as a massive, sprawling cast of supporting characters played by notable stars.

Solar Opposites are the perfect replacement for Rick and Morty

Scatological sci-fi satire takes on the anarchic appeal of Rick and Morty

As Rick and Morty, Solar opposites takes the building blocks of sci-fi shows and sitcoms and turns them into something sillier, funnier, and completely weirder in every episode. However, unlike Rick and Mortythe Hulu show is a family sitcom instead of a buddy comedy, so it never feels like a simple imitation of the previous hit.

It helps Solar opposites is somehow even dumber than Rick and Mortywhich was already one of the most entertaining shows on television. The way Solar opposites Justin Roiland’s recast after his firing highlights how the show doesn’t take itself seriously, radically and permanently changing the protagonist’s voice with a hasty explanation.Voice restoration radius.”

At every turn, Solar opposites takes its already wacky premise into sillier, more absurd territory, resulting in a series that has as much in common tonally with classic episodes of family guy as is the case with Rick and Morty. Or Rick and Morty at least occasionally delves into the dramatic depths of its heroesSolar opposites delights in never taking them seriously.

Solar Opposites’ Best Running Gag Became the Show’s Real Selling Point

The series has two spin-offs within the series

However, this does not mean that Solar opposites doesn’t take anything seriously. Rather, the series’ two spin-offs, Silvercops and The Wall, are both treated as dark dramas set in the same universe as this zany, freewheeling cartoon sitcom.

The Wall and Silvercops are standalone shows within the show, and unlike Solar oppositesthey have some pretty big stakes and some serious dramatic moments. Their storylines are so impactful that many fans online admit that they watch the series primarily to follow the plots of The Wall and Silvercops, and view the story’s main characters as a fun diversion.

Created in season 1, Solar oppositesThe Wall subplot follows a group of humans that Yumyulack has shrunk and left to live in a terrarium in his room. The group builds a makeshift society, with complex allegiances and countless betrayals, within this dark, almost post-apocalyptic setup.

Meanwhile, the Silvercops subplot follows the abusive titular cops, a corrupt regime that exists to harass Terry and Korvo’s alien species, the Shlorpians. Kieran Culkin’s Glen is a human who is shot down in space and joins the Silvercops, only to become disillusioned with their brutality and eventually join the resistance working against them.

The plots of The Wall and Silvercops prove that this Hulu series is full of invention and originality and has no shortage of intriguing ideas to explore, even outside of its titular alien family. So, even if Solar opposites season 6 could be the last outing of the series, this Rick and Morty The Replacement is still worth seeing for fans of anarchic sci-fi comedies.
