Michael Madigan sentenced to 7.5 years in prison for corruption: live updates

During a discussion on letters of support written for the former president of the Chamber, Madigan’s lawyer Lari Dierks, Judge Blakey told the position of the former speaker that he was innocent.

The exchange came after Dierks told Judge Blakey that he “imports a lot” that more than 130 people had written letters in the support of Madigan.

“They shared that Mike is known to be true. His word is his link. Honesty is a fundamental value for him,” said Dierks.

The assistant prosecutor of the United States, Julia Schwartz, replied that “Madigan rose on the stand and lied.

Schwartz highlighted Madigan’s assertion that he expected his allies to work for the money paid to them by Comed.

Dierks challenged what Schwartz said, but Blakey interrupted the Dierks to ask him if it is his position that Madigan is “not guilty of any of the chiefs”.

At first glance, Dierks tried to kick the question, but when Blakey pressed him to know if Madigan insists on his innocence, Dierks said to him: “Yes, your honor”.
