Northwell Health CEO Michael Dowling is withdrawn as president and executive officer of the non -profit supplier from October 1, the health system announced on Wednesday. The executive, which has been at the head of Northwell for over 23 years, will continue to support the New York -based system as an advisory advice of CEO emeritus, according to the press release.

Dowling was the first CEO of Northwell and helped bring the business from a Hospitals based in Long Island to one of the country’s largest systems, more recently thanks to a merger with Nuvance Health.

The agreement has taken more than a year to conclude and came with considerable regulatory conditions, including the Northwell agreements to invest in Nuvance facilities and limit prices. However, the merger has greatly inflated the size of Northwell, adding seven hospitals to its wallet and creating a system of nearly $ 23 billion.

The combined health system now employs around 104,000 workers in 28 hospitals and 1,000 care, the press release.

The Northwell Board of Directors appointed John D’Angelo as a Dowling successor. D’Angelo, a former emergency medicine doctor who is currently executive vice-president of the Central region of Northwell, has been at Northwell for over 25 years, including in clinical and administrative leadership roles.
