Melissa McCarthy elevates the space behind her dining table

Generally, the dining table is the focal point of the dining room. This large piece of furniture defines the purpose of the space and takes up significant real estate. However, adding other smaller pieces of furniture can help create a more designer look.
Melissa McCarthy shows us how it’s done with her innovative dining room furniture ideas. The comedian took to Instagram to share a slice of her Thanksgiving dinner with the world, but we were more wowed by her use of space. Rather than waste space behind the dining table, Melissa positions a dark wood sideboard against the wall.
Recreate Melissa’s Look at Home
Modern sideboard with solid wood legs
This pretty sideboard has an elegant and unique shape. I love the intricate design and dark wood, which feels both modern and retro.
This beautiful light colored frame would be the perfect addition to a dining room. A blue piece of art would be an ideal addition.
Antique Middle Eastern Copper Water Pitcher
This beautiful antique copper pot looks just like the one on Melissa’s sideboard. It’s heirloom quality at a great price.
Melissa’s traditional dining room idea shows how much of a difference decor can make. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to recreate this warm look.
Lena Gierasinska, design expert at Barker and Stonehouse, advises: “As we head into the season ahead, transform your dining room into a peaceful haven. Even small changes like potted plants, warm lights, and wood and stone accessories instantly brighten a room, helping you create a space that’s both beautiful and functional. Add warmth with dining chairs upholstered in rich fabrics such as velvet or leather, complemented by rugs woven in natural materials like wool.
As the blue paint and pink placemats in Melissa’s home demonstrate, bringing in color is part of designing an attractive dining room.
Lena says: “It’s important to add color to any room, but especially one you entertain guests in, because you want that space to feel inviting and welcoming. Experiment with your color palette, introducing contrasting colors on your walls and layering individual pieces in different hues and textures to find your own style.
Incorporating a sideboard or credenza provides this space to organize the decor and direct the art. Additionally, the space underneath creates additional storage space. This maximizes surface area and creates beauty.
The dining room is a space to apply imagination and innovation to design. With the right touches, it can even become like a second living room.
