Meet the woman behind the viral train of Gavin Newsom

California governor Gavin Newsom began to make an additional effort while dragging President Donald Trump on social networks this week, publishing in all fully capped tirades, just as the president is known to do so on Truth Social. But Newsom himself does not always lead this charge; It is actually its digital director, Camille Zapata.

The native of Stockton, now aged 29, obtained a diploma in cultural anthropology of the UC Santa Cruz and began to work for the governor last June. She leads a fairly small team of four people, of whom herself. (It is common that public figures like Newsom do not personally manage their social media profiles.)

Before working for the Governor of California, Zapata founded his own business and political creation business, entitled House of Zapata, where she was also a digital consultant to the media and politicians. She worked on several campaigns, and even briefly as a substitute teacher.

In his time at the Governor’s office, his team led Tiktok from Newsom to increase his number of followers of more than a million people and made his X account a frank tool to applaud Trump’s antics.

Zapata and his team actively jump on meme and audio trends with Newsom’s accounts, simply due to the “online chronicle” and after pop culture, she told Marie Claire last month. Although Trump’s habit of publishing in All-Caps is not exactly a trend, it is certainly a characteristic of the presence of the online president. So, on Tuesday, the Newsom account followed suit.

“Donald Trump, the lowest president of the polls in recent history, is your second to warn !!! (The next one is the last!)”, Said Newsom’s press office on X. “Stand Down Ow or California will be thwarted (legally!) To destroy your illegal twisted cards in the red states.”

The position quickly became viral and the Newsom team continued the trend all week. Thursday morning, they had fun at Trump’s complaint for not having been nominated for prestigious prices such as the Nobel Peace Prize or a Kennedy Center Honor.

“Many people say – and I agree – that I, Gavin C. Newsom (the favorite governor of America) deserved the Nobel Peace Prize,” said the post. “For what? Because of the “most incredible cards in the history of cartography” (even Columbus). These cards will end the “very fake” elections, will make America Grand again (Maga !!!), will take up the Congress “for the people” and save democracy. “

The message then called Trump specifically, finishing “thank you for your attention to this case” (a sentence that the president took to sign to sign his messages).

According to Zapata, “quick responses” on social networks are “essential” these days, so she and her team keep close to what is happening. In turn, it leads to viral moments, as we saw this week.
