He was 70 years old on July 19, 2025 and there was an uncertainty about his continuation in the role due to the age limit specified in the BCCI Constitution.
In particular, any door holder which is 70 years old is disqualified from the holding of the post, in accordance with the constitution approved by the Supreme Court.
This has led to speculations according to which the vice-president of the BCCI, Rajeev Shukla, will soon be promoted and will take charge as president, at least on a provisional basis.
The annual general meeting of the BCCI (AGM) is scheduled for September, and last month, it was reported that Roger Binny could continue as a guard until the meeting.
The national sports bill could help Roger Binny continue as president of the BCCI up to 75 years
According to the latest PTI report, the national sports bill that was adopted in Parliament on Tuesday could help Roger Binny to continue the president of the BCCI up to 75 years.
However, this will only happen when members of the BCCI state unit give it a green light. In particular, 75 were set as the age of cut for the office carriers of national sports federations, whose world organizations have no specifically mentioned age clause, such as the ICC.
In addition, the BCCI legal team goes through the National Sports bill, even if it will have no major impact on the board of directors because there is no subsidies to the government.
“Roger will continue until the meeting of the board of directors in September. If he will obtain a new term depends on what members and other powerful persons associated with the BCCI decide,” a source of the board of directors said on anonymity conditions.
“The national sports bill has just been adopted, so we have time to study it and initiate an appropriate discussion before making a decision,” said the source.
“There are other points to be discussed in the bill for sure, and all the stakeholders, including senior players and coaching staff, will be consulted, especially because the cricket will be played at the 2028 Olympic Games,” he added.
