McConnell Inks Contracted with Phoenix Mercury

Pittsburgh, PA. – Former Women’s Basketball Garden in Duquesne Megan McConnell Officially signed a contract with the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA, the team announced on Tuesday.

Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, McConnell only becomes the third player in the history of the program to make an active WNBA list, joining the ranks of Korie Hlede (1998) and Candace Futrell (2004). The guardian of the 5’7 also joins a rare group, becoming only one of the three sisters-brothers active in the NBA and the WNBA, alongside his brother, TJ McConnell, goalkeeper of the Indiana Pacers.

McConnell crowned one of the most distinguished careers in the history of Duquesne women’s basketball. During her stay on the bluff, she became the leader of all time in the program (660) and flights (370), while finishing second in career with 1,795 points. She also established school records for games played (144), career departures (136) and double triples (4). Despite the respect of 5 feet 7 inch, it turned out to be a dominant presence on the advice, collecting 1,079 rebounds in a career, the second largest number in the history of the program, and on average 7.5 rebounds per game, good for the 10th of all time. A threat of coherent perimeter, she overturned 209 three points, ranking sixth in Duquesne, while her 4.6 assists per game are the seventh best note in the history of the school.

The old guard is not unrelated to the distinctions, constantly gaining recognition for its exceptional impact at the two ends of the court. She was appointed to the Becky Hammon’s player’s monitoring of the year player in consecutive seasons (2023-24 and 2024-25), finally emerging as one of the five finalists in her last year. In particular, she was the only player of mid-majeur selected for the female defensive surveillance list of the year 2025 and also appeared on the mid-season monitoring list Ann Meyers Drysdale Award. McConnell concluded his collegial career with a selection of the Lilly Women’s College 2025 stars match and was crowned with the Atlantic 10 of the year. Twice the first A-10 All-Conference team and winner of the entirely defensive team, she also distinguished herself on the academic level, winning the honors of the A-10 All-Academic team for three consecutive seasons and being appointed to the Academic All-District® team of the CSC three times.

The Mercury has gone to their best start since 2014, opening the season with a 5-2 file. They will seek to maintain the momentum as they continue their continuation of the commissioner’s cup, going to Minnesota to face the lynx on Tuesday, June 3. Tip-off is scheduled at 8:00 p.m. at the target center.
