Marvel’s First and Greatest Villain is Finally Free
In The Incredible Hulk #30 – by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Nic Klein, Matt Wilson and Cory Petit – fans finally see the Mother of Horrors. This gigantic elder god was the first and only one not created by He-Above-All, becoming a long-time enemy of Marvel’s supreme being. When they finally fought, the Mother of Horrors even managed to injure the One-Above-All, corrupting his blood and causing the evil One-Below-All to exist.
The One-Above All finally banished the Mother of Horrors beyond reality, with the entirety of The Incredible Hulk volume 7 leading to his release. This ultimately happens because the Mother of Horrors’ eldest “daughter” stole the Hulk’s body, using her strength and gamma to access her mother’s prison outside of time and space. However, she finds the Mother of Horrors in a coma after her long periods of isolation…and that’s when things go wrong.
The Infernal Hulk becomes the new god of monsters
Desperate to claim the powers of the Mother of Horrors, the Elder consumes her creator, taking the supernatural god’s gamma into her new Hulk form. The result is the birth of the Infernal Hulk, whose adventures will continue in a new series of the same name. The Mother of Horrors is the creator of all of Marvel’s monsters and can control their minds, with the Elder Channeling these powers into the past. From now on, the Infernal Hulk will roam the Earth, hunting down Earth’s greatest monsters and forcing them to swear loyalty to their new leader.
After 86 years, Marvel fans have witnessed the first form of evil in the Marvel multiverse – a form linked to characters as diverse as the Hulk, the Sentinel, Ghost Rider and Dracula. While humanity fears him, his lineage can be traced back to the Mother of Horrors, making the opening of her prison/tomb one of the most defining moments in Marvel history.
The revelation of the Mother of Horrors and her consumption by the Infernal Hulk marks the beginning of this new Hulk’s quest to unleash a new era of monsters on Earth.
