Marvel Studios had plans for a series of Star-Lord T Téchalla spin-off before the death of Chadwick Boseman
The first season of What if …? was undoubtedly where the animated series culminated, and one of its many protruding facts came when we were presented to “Star-Lord Thalla”.
This variant of Téchalla had been taken from the earth as a boy and grew up with ravages. Even without heart-shaped grass, Wakandan was a hero, being a fun and badass of Star-Lord version who finally joined the Watcher multiverse guards.
Chadwick Boseman recorded its lines for What if …? Before dying. Marvel zombiesWho started production after the actor’s death, presents the Black Panther of “What if … Zombies?!” Rather than redesign the role, Marvel Animation decided to give no line to the hero.
Speaking to Screen Rant, the showrunner Bryan Andrews addressed this decision and confirmed that there was once planned to follow What if …? with a Star-Lord T’Challa Spin off.
“This is why we have chosen to have Peter [Parker] Tell this moment. We didn’t have Chadwick. If we had Chadwick, it would have been completely different choices, “ he explained. “If we had Chadwick, he would have had his own Star-Lord Spin-Off show T’Challa long before we did the zombie thing.”
“But being able to review his character in this way, the way it takes place is another way of being with him in a strange way, even if there were no words. Do you know what I mean?” Andrews continued. “It’s always Black Panther from Chadwick, and it’s Rad.”
The Marvel TV boss, Brad Winderbaum, was also on site to say, “And we have in fact shown a first animatic to Ryan Coogler to obtain his notes, and he had great ideas in this sequence which were really additive.”
If Boseman had not died after fighting cancer, he would undoubtedly have been entirely established as one of the main characters of Marvel Cinematic Universe. His loss left a huge void in the franchise that Marvel Studios apparently intends to fill out by throwing a new t’challa Avengers: Doomsday and / or Avengers: secret wars.
