Marvel Comics Reveals AVENGERS #800 and a Breathtaking Connection Variant Cover by Russell Dauterman
Next January, Avengers #34part by superstar writer Jed MacKay (Doctor Strange) and that of acclaimed artist Farid Karami (Daredevil) the current hit run, will mark the 800th number of the Avengers current series.
To celebrate this milestone, the issue will be a giant spectacle with special backup stories from legendary past creators. Avengers #34 will also mark a critical turning point in MacKay’s era on the title as various overarching plot threads, including Kang and Myrddin’s battle across space and time, the secrets of the Impossible City, and much more, collide in epic fashion.
Everything was built towards this: Myrddin’s endgame. As Kang reveals himself at the precipice of a new universe, this powerful team of Avengers assembles for the final challenge they prepare for.
Teasing what to expect from the story, McKay said today: “Avengers #800 is a huge milestone for both the title and our story, as we enter the grand finale of the story we’ve been telling for the past few years! It’s fantastic to be part of such a big anniversary issue and to have contributed to the history of the Avengers!”
Avengers #34 will feature a stunning wraparound cover by bestselling artist Russell Dauterman that brings together heroes from throughout Avengers history. The epic connection cover will be spread across three issues, running through March. Avengers #36.
Explaining how he approached this wild connection cover, Dauterman shared: “I jumped at the chance to draw these covers – I’m honored to be a part of this Marvel milestone. Editor-in-Chief Wil Moss referenced Jim Lee’s X-Men team compositions as inspiration –– I ran with that, looking to the awesome trading cards from 1992 and also the awesome art of George Pérez.”
“I love the Avengers team pieces that George has made over the years,” he continued, “and I was excited about the opportunity to create my own.”
This is a big milestone for the Avengers, and it looks like there are some big surprises in store for fans of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. In fact, it’s said that we should stay tuned in the coming weeks for news on the surprise creators who contributed to this historic issue.
