Marvel Benedict Wong was cut off from one of the worst films by Ridley Scott

Benedict Wong began her career as a professional actress in the 1990s in her native England, appearing for the first time on the screen in an episode of 1992 in the anthology series “Screen Play”. He continued to build his curriculum vitae, presenting himself in unique episodes of various British television programs, playing support roles and guest spots. It would not be before the year 2000 that Wong would appear in his first feature film, a police comedy entitled “Kiss Kiss (Bang Bang)” so as not to confuse with the almost identical film by Shane Black from 2005. He then won a support role in his first Hollywood feature film, “Spy Game”, in 2001.

From there, Wong’s career has continued to develop, and he started working with high -level directors like Stephen Frears, Michael Winterbottom, Danny Boyle and Luc Besson. Then, in 2012, Wong appeared in “Prometheus” by Ridley Scott, playing the character of Ravel. Scott and Wong worked clearly, however, because they then worked together on the ultra-bizarre criminal film “the adviser” the following year. There, Wong played a character named Lee, although all his scenes were cut before the film’s release. There is no doubt, he still gave great performance, as he generally does. Wong and Scott would continue to work together a third time after the science fiction film “The Martian”. After that, Wong won a lucrative concert playing a character also named Wong in the magic superhero film by Scott Derrickson “Doctor Strange”. He has since taken up the role of Wong in several additional films in the Marvel cinematographic universe.

“The advisor”, if you have not seen it, is easily one of the worst films in Scott. It was written by the author winning the Pulitzer Cormac McCarthy prize, but it is philosophically inert and completely confusing. He also presents images and really bizarre iconography, the least of which is not a time when Cameron Diaz has sex with a car windshield. The casting is a game, but the film is terrible, and it is one of the least low films of Scott on Rotten Tomatoes.

The advisor can be the worst film by Ridley Scott

During a 2019 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Wong was asked about a promotional short film in which he appeared entitled “2036: Nexus Dream”, which was directly linked to “Blade Runner 2049” by Denis Villeneuve. The short circuit “Nexus Dream” was made by the son of Ridley Scott, Luke Scott, while (as we all know) the original “Blade Runner” was directed by Ridley Scott himself. It should also be noted that “Spy Game” was produced by Ridley Scott’s brother Tony Scott. Wong was professionally connected with almost the entire Scott family.

When he arrived, Wong spoke briefly about “the advisor”, but only to mention it by the way. As the actor recalled:

“I had my first film break with Tony Scott on ‘Spying game. Obviously, I worked with Ridley on ‘Prometheus’ And ‘The Martian. I also worked with him on ‘Advisor‘But I was on the [cutting-room] floor for that one. Working with Luke was also a wonderful experience. During rehearsals, we were talking about cloning. So he’s like a chip from the old block. I remember watching her, thinking: “He is completely like a young Ridley” in terms of his process, but with his own thinners too. “”

Luke Scott has only carried out one feature to date, the 2016 “Morgan” science fiction thriller. Wong, however, does not appear in this film. It seems that if Ridley or Luke Scott called Wong Up again, however, he would please another of their projects. Well, provided that its MCU schedule does not light up. It should currently appear in “Avengers: Doomsday” (which should be released in 2026), and it can also be seen in the horror film “weapons” (which now plays in theaters).

What is the advisor?

The story of “the advisor” is a bit oblique. Michael Fassbender embodies the titular advisor (he has no other name), who is friends with a flamboyant drug trafficker named Reiner (Javier Bardem) and his girlfriend in the shape of a Malkina cat (Diaz). The advisor dreams of living happily with her own girlfriend, Laura (Penélope Cruz), but we know that their romance will end badly because of the adviser’s occasional participation in a future drug problem. The drug offer is not so secretly undermined by Malkina, which aims to fly the drugs. There is also a shaded secondary intrigue involving an incarcerated mother (Rosie Perez). Ruben Blades, John Leguizamo, Brad Pitt, Bruno Ganz and Natalie Dormer also appear in support roles. At the end of the film, at least one of the above -mentioned characters has sewn his head.

It is not clear if McCarthy tried to write a simple criminal thriller or a kind of comment on omnipresent evil in the heart of humanity. Anyway, he failed. The film is neither exciting nor poignant. It is also unpleasant. His characters are all empty or cruel in a way that makes them without commitment and inhuman. Bardem and Diaz at least try to bring verses to their roles. Ridley Scott, meanwhile, is clearly one of those filmmakers who likes to think of his visually films, above all. Once he has selected a script to realize, he prefers (apparently) to work quickly and to focus mainly on how to shoot the script rather than on his story or his themes, which is why his films can vary so madly in quality. The failure of the “advisor” is mainly based with McCarthy. Scott simply filmed what he had written.

Because Wong’s scenes have been cut, it is difficult to feel naturally where it could appear in “The Counseller”. Of course, it can be relieved not to have appeared in such a stinking. Anyway, he and Scott made “The Martian” two years later. It is the film much higher and can be one of the best in Scott.
