Marvel Animation’s plans for MARVEL ZOMBIES season 2 revealed

Marvel Zombies wrapped on a dark and somewhat confusing note. The Scarlet Witch used the power of the Infinity Hulk and Ms. Marvel to reshape reality, leaving Kamala Khan trapped in a world that, while seemingly normal on the surface, is now ruled by the undead.
The ending leaves the door open for more stories to be told in this alternate reality, as Ironheart turns out to be alive and tries to reach her best friend… who, we assume, is supposed to be sitting there in a trance, surrounded by zombies.
Various executives and creatives involved in Marvel Zombies have discussed the possibility of a second season, and today we have a rumored update from scooper Daniel Richtman.
Insider has learned that Marvel Animation is indeed moving forward with Marvel Zombies Season 2. It doesn’t share any additional information, such as when it might debut on Disney+ or what direction the story might take.
We imagine Kamala Khan and Riri Williams will team up to take on the Scarlet Witch again, although it’s hard to say how that would work now that she’s all-powerful. Marvel Animation could of course add some Phase 5 characters to the mix, but it could be argued that the series would work better as a one-off follow-up to What if…?
However, while Marvel Zombies didn’t receive the warmest reception – it has a mediocre 66% score on Rotten Tomatoes and 69% on the Popcornmeter – it was supposed to be a hit for Marvel Animation. According to Le Direct, “Marvel Studios is very pleased with the 5-day opening audience performance of Marvel Zombies, so much so that Marvel Animation is already considering telling future Zombies stories on Disney+.”
“Marvel Zombies’ initial audience statistics exceeded Disney and Marvel’s internal expectations,” the site continued, “and, according to our sources, the series is shaping up to be one of Marvel Animation’s most successful shows to date.”
